  • When the Legends Die -- Above average Western in which a sharp rodeo hustler (Richard Widmark) takes in an 18-year-old Ute Indian (Frederic Forrest) and teaches him the tricks of the trade but the youth does not see the value in taking money from suckers and returns to the reservation, sadder but wiser. Produced and directed by Stuart Millar, the fine character study of the two principals is chiefly what is of interest here, and not its commonplace message. Implied sexual affair.(A-III) (PG) ( 1972 )

    These movies have been evaluated for artistic merit and moral suitability by the media reviewing division of Catholic News Service. The reviews include the CNS rating, the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie.

    The classifications are as follows:

    A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
