  • Tower of London -- Static dramatization drawn from English history follows the course of murder and intrigue leading to the usurpation of the throne by the villainous Richard III (Basil Rathbone) and his defeat by Henry Tudor (Ralph Forbes) in 1483. Director Rowland V. Lee's leaden treatment adds little interest except for the diabolical relish with which the royal executioner (Boris Karloff) carries out Richard's dirty work, such as drowning the Duke of Clarence (Vincent Price) in a wine vat. Stylized violence, including a torture sequence. (A-II) (br) ( 1939 )
