  • Tous les Matins du Monde -- Aged court musician (Gerard Depardieu) in 17th-century France ruefully recalls his days as a cocky youth (Guillaume Depardieu) studying under a purist teacher (Jean-Pierre Marielle) who dropped him after discovering the student's affair with his daughter (Anne Brochet). Combining a sublime baroque soundtrack with gracefully restrained performances and painstaking pace, director Alain Corneau contrasts the approaches of two musicians to their art -- the one seeing it as a source of spiritual consolation, the other as a means to achieve worldly ambitions. Subtitles. A sexual encounter with brief nudity and a suicide. (A-III) (nr) ( 1992 )
