  • Touch, The -- Failed English-language production written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, the story is of a love triangle involving a busy, sensitive husband (Max von Sydow), his uncertain wife (Bibi Andersson) and her importunate, apparently unbalanced and unfeeling lover (Elliott Gould). Though it has flashes of Bergman's mastery in handling themes of alienation and searching, Gould is a classic case of miscasting and his performance makes the whole affair seem no more than campy soap opera. Ambiguous attitude towards adultery. (A-IV) (R) ( 1971 )

    These movies have been evaluated for artistic merit and moral suitability by the media reviewing division of Catholic News Service. The reviews include the CNS rating, the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie.

    A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
