  • Top o' the Morning -- Thin slice of stereotyped Irish whimsey as a Manhattan insurance investigator (Bing Crosby) comes to Cork to recover the stolen Blarney Stone, then falls for the daughter (Ann Blyth) of a cranky village policeman (Barry Fitzgerald) whose dim assistant (Hume Cronyn) keeps gumming up the works. Directed by David Miller, the lighthearted proceedings are darkened by the strange prophecies of a local wise woman (Eileen Crowe) and a heavy-handed conclusion involving murder, though there are enough Irish songs to keep a viewer's eyes shining. (A-I) (br) ( 1949 )

    These movies have been evaluated for artistic merit and moral suitability by the media reviewing division of Catholic News Service. The reviews include the CNS rating, the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie.

    The classifications are as follows:

    A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
