  • Too Many Girls -- Sappy Rodgers and Hart musical in which collegiate football stars (Richard Carlson, Eddie Bracken, Hal LeRoy and Desi Arnaz), hired as bodyguards for a millionaire's daughter (Lucille Ball) attending Pottawatomie College in New Mexico, transform the small school into a football powerhouse. Director George Abbott stages the sophomoric proceedings in stilted fashion, pausing occasionally for forgettable songs (Frances Langford) and dance numbers (Ann Miller) whose energy seems misplaced. Considerable emphasis on double entendres. (A-III) (br) ( 1940 )
