  • Tom Thumb -- Amiable retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale about a woodsman and his wife (Bernard Miles and Jessie Matthews) whose thumb-sized son (Russ Tamblyn) thwarts the scheme of a comic pair of villains (Terry-Thomas and Peter Sellers) to rob the village treasury. Director George Pal mixes a variety of animation and special effects with occasional lyrics sung by Peggy Lee to fashion a pleasant fantasy that will amuse children and pacify parents, though of less appeal for more demanding viewers.     A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
