  • Stage Fright -- Stodgy thriller in which a London drama student (Jane Wyman) helps a friend (Richard Todd) accused of murder escape the police, then tries to trap the music star (Marlene Dietrich) he says did it but, instead, falls for the confused detective (Michael Wilding) working on the case. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the muddled plot works up little tension and less romance, though some whimsical characters (Alastair Sim, Sibyl Thorndike and Kay Walsh) and Dietrich's grandstanding provide a bit of fun along the way. More menace than violence and some sexual innunedo. (A-II) (br) ( 1950 )
