  • Square Jungle, The -- Lumpy story of a Frisco grocery clerk (Tony Curtis) who decides to become a boxer, learns the ropes from a savvy trainer (Ernest Borgnine) and wins the middleweight title, then goes to pieces when he almost kills an opponent in the ring. Directed by Jerry Hopper, the story starts well, then becomes predictable as it builds to a sentimental ending, helped by Joe Louis, no less. Pugilistic violence and a drunken binge. (A-II) (br) ( 1955 )
