  • Raven, The -- Grisly horror movie in which a surgeon (Bela Lugosi) goes batty after being rejected by a woman (Irene Ware) whose life he saved, then seeks his revenge with the help of an escaped killer (Boris Karloff) who needs the doctor to repair his disfigured face. Directed by Louis Friedlander (aka Lew Landers), the contrived proceedings grow ridiculously overwrought as the sadistic surgeon imprisons the woman and her loved ones in a torture chamber inspired by Edgar Allan Poe stories. Stylized violence, menacing situations and some gruesome visuals. (A-III) (br) ( 1935 )
