  • Murder on a Bridle Path -- Pedestrian murder mystery with schoolteacher Hildegarde Withers (Helen Broderick in the role created by Edna May Oliver) helping New York City homicide inspector Oscar Piper (James Gleason) catch the killer of a socialite horseback riding in Central Park. Directed by Edward Killy and William Hamilton, the plot and characters earn little interest, the red herrings are artifical and the solution proves disappointing, despite some sinister thrills in the climax. Some stylized violence and racial stereotyping. (A-I) (br) ( 1936 )
