  • Murder, Inc. -- Fact-based drama of the crime syndicate's top hitman (Peter Falk) in the 1930s who was himself murdered in the 1940s after making a deal with the New York D.A. (Henry Morgan) to testify against Brooklyn mob boss Lepke (David J. Stewart). Directed by Burt Balaban and Stuart Rosenberg, the gangster era is depicted convincingly enough, though the narrative is handicapped by focusing on two peripheral characters (Stuart Whitman and May Britt) who fail to generate much human interest. Restrained depiction of vicious murders and underworld brutality. (A-III) (br) ( 1960 )
