  • Little Buddha -- Traveling to the mountain kingdom of Bhutan with his dad (Chris Isaak), a 9-year-old Seattle boy (Alex Wiesendanger) learns about the life of Buddha (Keanu Reeves) from a monk (Ying Ruocheng) who thinks the child may be the reincarnation of a revered lama. Director Bernardo Bertolucci's visually stunning work crosscuts skillfully from the contemporary reincarnation story to the ancient tale of a troubled prince who became the Buddha after he learned compassion for all living things. Positive treatment of universal spiritual values as well as Buddhist beliefs, including reincarnation. (A-II) (PG) ( 1994 )
