  • Lighthorsemen, The -- Unable to dislodge the Turks from Gaza during World War I, the British mount a surprise attack on Beersheba in a daring frontal assault by an Australian troop of Light Horse Infantry. Director Simon Wincer's Australian production is a visually compelling picture of war in the desert, with mass formations of soldiers riding to battle or marking time in camp, though its focus on several troopers (Jon Blake and Peter Phelps) and their problems is less than interesting. Stylized violence and several flashes of rear nudity. (A-II) (PG) ( 1987 )

    These movies have been evaluated for artistic merit and moral suitability by the media reviewing division of Catholic News Service. The reviews include the CNS rating, the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie.

    The classifications are as follows:

    A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
