  • Life Begins at 8:30 -- Maudlin melodrama about an aged, alcoholic actor (Monty Woolley) who relies on his dutiful daughter (Ida Lupino) to care for him until a young man (Cornel Wilde) persists in courting her. Directed by Irving Pichel, the theme of filial devotion vs. personal happiness is painfully contrived and Woolley's acerbic character wears thin long before film's end. (A-II) (br) ( 1942 )
