  • In Name Only -- Glossy sudser in which a rich man (Cary Grant) falls for a poor widow (Carole Lombard) but his greedy wife (Kay Francis) refuses to give him a divorce and gets his parents to take her side until they learn of her plans to fleece the family. Directed by John Cromwell, the manipulative proceedings feature a charmless romance which is meant to gain sympathy by making the wife a two-faced ogre but the result is little more than sentimental rubbish. Implicit marital infidelity and sexual innuendo. (A-III) (br) ( 1939 )

    These movies have been evaluated for artistic merit and moral suitability by the media reviewing division of Catholic News Service. The reviews include the CNS rating, the Motion Picture Association of America rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie.

    A-I -- general patronage;
    A-II -- adults and adolescents;
    A-III -- adults;
    L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. L replaces the previous classification, A-IV.
