  • Impromptu -- Enchanted by Chopin's music, female novelist George Sand (Judy Davis) sets her sights on having an affair with the sickly musician (Hugh Grant), unaware that the jealous mistress (Bernadette Peters) of Franz Liszt (Julian Sand) has thrown a wrench in the works. Despite an appealing cast, director James Lapine's comedy fails to rise beyond the level of silly period piece. Minor violence, casual acceptance of affairs and minimal rough language. (A-III) (PG-13) ( 1991 )
