  • Il Postino -- (1995) Touching, fact-based story set in 1952 Italy, where a simple country postman (Massimo Troisi) befriends Chilean political exile Pablo Neruda (Philippe Noiret), a renowned poet whose sensuous words inspire the girl-shy mailman to win the hand of the local beauty (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) he has admired from afar. Director Michael Radford's humanistic picture of love, friendship and the transforming power of art is elevated by Troisi and Noiret's affecting performances and the sumptuous visual beauty of the rural setting. Subtitles. Mild sexual references. (A-II) (PG) ( The Postman )
