  • For the Love of Mike -- Sentimental tale in which an Indian boy (Danny Bravo) races the thoroughbred horse he's raised from a colt in order to win the money needed by his ailing parish priest (Arthur Shields) to build a new church, then runs away when a man (Rex Allen) claims the horse belongs to him. Director George Sherman dresses up the formula story with a subplot about the poor Indian parish's kindly new curate (Richard Basehart), but the contrived results are less compelling than the rugged beauty of the Southwestern locales and the youth's tense encounter with a mountain lion. Thin but well-intended inspirational fare. (A-I) (br) ( 1960 )
