  • Extreme Measures -- Routine thriller in which a doctor (Hugh Grant) stumbles onto a diabolical conspiracy led a famed nuerosurgeon (Gene Hackman) who's using homeless men as disposable human guinea pigs in medical experiments. Directed by Michael Apted, the story builds initial suspense, then succumbs to the cliches of a mad-scientist plot with a far-fetched, overwrought finale. Sporadic violence, much profanity and rough language. (A-III) (R) ( 1996 )
