  • Dawn Patrol, The -- World War I as fought in the air by a squadron of British fighter pilots whose commander (Neil Hamilton) buckles under the strain of sending men to their death and is replaced by one of the squadron's pilots (Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.). Directed by Howard Hawks from John Monk Saunders' script, the early talkie seems creaky today in romanticizing the desperate bravado of those who survive the deadly toll of daily air missions but the aerial combat sequences are gripping enough to carry the picture. Wartime violence. (A-I) (br) ( 1930 )

    A-I -- general patronage;
