  • Date with Judy, A -- Thin teenage romance with 16-year-old Santa Barbara high schoolers (Jane Powell in the title role with Elizabeth Taylor as her stuck-up rival) falling for a World War II veteran (Robert Stack) working his way through college as a soda jerk. Director Richard Thorpe's sentimental picture of small-town family life is invincibly innocent in its treatment of such contrivances as Judy's father (Wallace Beery) secretly taking lessons from a rhumba dancer (Carmen Miranda) in order to surprise his wife (Selena Royle) but causing Judy to fear he's having an affair. Adolescent mix-ups. (A-I) (br) ( 1948 )
